SPEED DATING: Meet the Barnstormers
Running Back Donavan Williams

Welcome back to SPEED DATING, where we give you a crash course introduction to each member of the 2017 Iowa Barnstormers roster!

Today we’re going to introduce you to running back Donavan Williams.

Williams (6-0, 215, Sam Houston State) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his rookie season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Williams played two years at Sam Houston State University where he became the 10th SHSU running back to rush for more than 200 yards in a game with 13 carries for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns.

What does Coach Wooten think of Williams? “Donavan is a very good running back. He has size and moves to finish runs, block, and work in small places. Scoring 4 touchdowns in a major college game speaks for itself.”

We asked Williams a few quick questions to get to know him better, check it out below:

What’s your sign? Taurus

Favorite Food: Chicken Alfredo or Jamaican Beef Patties

Favorite Movie: Friday Night Lights Favorite

Favorite TV Show: East Bound and Down

Favorite NFL Team: Seattle Seahawks

Favorite Musician: J Cole

What is something that’s on your bucket list? “Winning a championship, most definitely.”

Favorite thing about playing football? “Perseverance. The ups and downs throughout the whole process, it’s fun to overcome those hills. There’s nothing like playing a game of football, just feeling that vibe once you get the ball in your hands and feeling the vibe once you get out on the field and you see all of the fans that are there to watch the team you play for. It’s just something special, there’s nothing like it.”

Who inspires you? “My dad. My dad passed away last year, he definitely was the one who inspired me. Just knowing he was going through so much pain and he kept it going through the whole process of being sick and he kept pushing and lasted longer than the doctors thought he would. He’s definitely my inspiration and motivation.”

Where is some place you’ve always wanted to visit, but haven’t? “Brazil.”

What is your greatest achievement thus far? “Being able to get my degree in school, that’s definitely my biggest accomplishment.”

If you weren’t playing football, what would you be doing? “I definitely would be putting my degree in use. I’d be trying to build a career in criminal justice, which I have my degree in, trying to build a future for my family.”

What are you looking forward to in joining the Iowa Barnstormers roster? “I’m really looking forward to getting to be part of a great organization, a great team, and a great coaching staff. Getting to meet players and being able to win a couple ball games, hopefully every ball game.”

Is there anything you want the fans to know about you? “I just want the fans to know that no matter what the situation is, I’m going to give you my word that I’ll give 1,000% in everything I do whenever I get on that field.”
