Barnstormers Top Titans in Pre-Season Game
Iowa Barnstormers regular season starts on February 20

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers hit the field for the first time in 2016 as they traveled to Cedar Rapids to take on the Titans for a pre-season matchup. Tonight’s contest marked the end of training camp and a chance to earn a spot on the Barnstormers 2016 roster.

The game started off strong for the Barnstormers as receiver Johnny Thomas recorded a touchdown reception putting Iowa up 6-0 early. Former Iowa State Cyclone Aaron Wimberly and rookie receiver Charles Torwudzo continued the scoring to bring the overall Barnstormers lead to 26 points in the first quarter. Not to be outdone, the Iowa defense stepped up and made big plays including a sack by former Iowa Hawkeye Lebron Daniel and a fumble recovery by former Grand View Viking Raytron Lamar. The first quarter came to a close with the Barnstormers leading the Titans 26-0.

Cedar Rapids managed to get on the board early in the second with a touchdown pass from Titans quarterback Dylan Favre. The Iowa defense would respond by forcing a turnover that would lead to a 26-yard FG by Barnstormers kicker Josh Gable. The new lead wouldn’t last long as the Titans struck quickly to close the gap to 29-13. Cedar Rapids would score again on a field goal with 5 seconds left to play in the half. On the ensuing kickoff, the Barnstormers got great field position to attempt their own last second field goal. Gable would hit from 30 yards out bringing the half to a close with Iowa leading 32-16.

Coming out of the locker room, the Iowa defense would continue their strong play by thwarting several Cedar Rapids offensive drives. Veteran quarterback Donovan Porterie would extend the Barnstormers lead by connecting with returning Iowa receiver Brady Roland in the endzone. The Titans would answer with a touchdown of their own from running back Julian Hayes pushing the score to 39-23. Cedar Rapids struck again quickly with another touchdown and a successful 2-point conversion to close the lead to just eight points at the end of the third quarter.

Not to be rattled, the Iowa offense would find the endzone to start the fourth with a touchdown pass from former UNI Panther quarterback Brion Carnes to wide receiver Marcus Barnett. Gable connected for the extra point to increase the Iowa lead to 46-31.Cedar Rapids would answer back with a touchdown reception by Jared Elmore. Following field goals by both teams, Elmore would find the endzone again hauling in a pass from Favre and bring the Titans to within two points of Iowa. On the ensuing drive, The Barnstormers would control the ball and finish off the night with a touchdown reception by Lemans Casimier leading to a 59-50 victory over the Titans.

The Iowa Barnstormers travel to Loveland, Colorado to face the Colorado Crush in the first game of the season on February 20. The Barnstormers will return home on Friday, February 26 to take on the Green Bay Blizzard at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets and single game tickets are available now.
