DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers hit the field for the first time in 2016 as they traveled to Cedar Rapids to take on the Titans for a pre-season matchup. Tonight’s contest marked the end of training camp and a chance to earn a spot on the Barnstormers 2016 roster.

Former Iowa State Cyclone Aaron Wimberly and rookie receiver Charles Torwudzo continued the scoring to bring the overall Barnstormers lead to 26 points in the first quarter. Not to be outdone, the Iowa defense stepped up and made big plays including a sack by former Iowa Hawkeye Lebron Daniel and a fumble recovery by former Grand View Viking Raytron Lamar. The Iowa defense would respond by forcing a turnover that would lead to a 26-yard FG by Barnstormers kicker Josh Gable. The new lead wouldn’t last long as the Titans struck quickly to close the gap to 29-13. Cedar Rapids would score again on a field goal with 5 seconds left to play in the half. On the ensuing kickoff, the Barnstormers got great field position to attempt their own last second field goal. Gable would hit from 30 yards out bringing the half to a close with Iowa leading 32-16.
Coming out of the locker room, the Iowa defense would continue their strong play by thwarting several Cedar Rapids offensive drives.
