Bossier City, LA – The Iowa Barnstormers success away from home continued on Saturday night as they defeated the Bossier City-Shreveport Battle Wings by a score of 48-42. With the victory, the Barnstormers improve to 4-5 overall, including a league-best 3-1 on the road. Meanwhile, the Battle Wings fall to 3-7 on the season.
The game was a back and forth battle as neither team led by more than seven points. Iowa quarterback Ryan Vena completed 20 of 30 passes for 250 yards and five touchdowns, while also running for two scores. WR Todd Blythe had another outstanding night with nine receptions for 127 yards and four touchdowns. Iowa also received a great effort from their defense, which forced four turnovers.
Iowa entered the fourth quarter with a narrow 42-35 lead, but Bossier City rallied to tie the game, when QB Gary Cooper connected with WR James Jordan with just over 4 minutes to go. After intercepting Vena on the next drive, the Battle Wings appeared to be driving for the winning score, but Iowa’s Khalil Carter recovered a P.J. Barry fumble with 1:27 left. The Barnstormers then drove the length of the field, culminating with a 20 yard touchdown from Vena to Blythe, which gave Iowa a 48-42 lead and securing the victory.
