Barnstormers Back In Win Column

Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa Barnstormers have endured some tough times the past two months. However, after six losses, numerous injuries and a coaching change, the Barnstormers  find themselves back in the win column after defeating the Utah Blaze 50-48 on Friday night.    With the victory, Iowa improves to 3-7 on the season, while Utah Falls to 5-5. The victory is the first for the Barnstormers newly-named Head Coach, J.T. Smith.

The game featured two of the AFL’s top offensive units in a head to head battle. In typical Arena Football League fashion, the team’s matched each other score for score for most of the first three quarters. Utah Quarterback Tommy Grady matched Iowa’s Brad banks throw for throw all night long, giving the Blaze a 48-43 lead entering the final quarter.

Iowa struck first in the final frame as Banks found WR Tommy Ellingworth for what would ultimately be the game-winning touchdown. With the narrow two-point lead, Iowa’s defense stepped up their game by not allowing a single point in the fourth quarter. The Barnstormers defense forced Utah to turn the ball over on downs on their next to last possession, and then sealed the victory as DB Patrick Stoudamire intercepted Grady at the goal-line with just over 1:00 remaining on the clock.

The Barnstormers are home again next Saturday, June 4 as they battle with the Orlando Predators. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05pm and great seats still remain on sale. Check out the Barnstormers BK King Deal package. For just $10.00 you’ll receive a 200 level game ticket, a Burger King Whopper value meal and Barnstormers mini-megaphone.
