Dallas, TX. - Numerous turnovers and untimely penalties once again proved costly for the Iowa Barnstormers as they fell to the Dallas Vigilantes by a score of 71-57 at the American Airlines Center on Saturday night. Iowa’s fourth straight loss drops the Barnstormers to 2-6, while Dallas improves to 6-2 on the season.
Iowa started out strong and led 17-14 at the end of the first quarter, thanks to two timely interceptions, one of which was returned for an 18 yard touchdown by Barnstormers DB Patrick Stoudamire. Barnstormers QB Brad Banks played a solid first half accounting for 4 touchdowns (3 pass, 1 run). However Dallas countered with a strong mix of runs and passes to take a narrow 41-37 lead into half-time.
Following the break, Dallas Quarterback Dan Raudabaugh took control of the game, leading the Vigilantes on five scoring drives. Three of these drives came off of Barnstormers turnovers. Raudabaugh finished the game throwing for 7 touchdown passes, while RB Dan Ross ran for 3 scores of his own. Banks finished with 5 touchdown passes on the night, his fewest since a week 1 loss at Pittsburgh.
The Barnstormers road trip continues next Friday night, May 13 when they head to Jacksonville to take on the Sharks. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05pm CST. Iowa’s next home game is scheduled for Friday, May 27 when they host the Utah Blaze at 7:05pm.
