Lewis Returns to Defensive Line
Barnstormers Re-Sign Defensive Lineman Phil Lewis

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers have re-signed defensive lineman Phil Lewis, Head Coach Dixie Wooten announced today.

Lewis (6-3, 305, University of Toledo) returns to the Iowa Barnstormers for his second season with the team. In 2016, Lewis starred in 12 games with the Barnstormers where he recorded 18 solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles. Prior to joining the Barnstormers, Lewis made his Indoor Football League (IFL) debut in 2014 with the Sioux Falls Storm, appearing in six games.

Collegiately, Lewis attended Grand Rapids Community College where he was a multi-sport athlete earning First Team All-League and League Defensive MVP Honors in football and All-Region Honors in track and field for shot put and discus. Lewis transferred to the University of Toledo in 2010. Throughout his career with the Rockets, Lewis appeared in 18 games and recorded 33 total tackles.

“Signing Phil gives us experience and more talent on the defensive line,” said Coach Wooten. “He can play nose and defensive end, something that is huge in Indoor Football.”

Lewis looks forward to re-joining his teammates for a fresh start this season.

“I’m looking forward to learning from this new coaching staff and trying to bounce back from a tough season with the returning players,” said Lewis. “My goal for the season is to win a championship.”
