Iowa Barnstormers Fall to Wichita Falls Nighthawks
Barnstormers Defeated by Nighthawks 74-47

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers were defeated by the Wichita Falls Nighthawks 74-47 at Kay Yeager Coliseum.

The first quarter began with a fumble on the first possession from the Barnstormers, allowing the Nighthawks to captialize by scoring the first touchdown of the game. The Barnstormers responded later in the quarter with a touchdown pass of their own from quarterback Donovan Porterie to receiver Johnny Thomas. The first quarter ended with a tie score of 7-7.

The Barnstormers defense showed up in the second quarter with a pick from defensive back Tony Grimes. The Barnstormers failed to score on the next possession and Wichita Falls took over scoring a 22-yard field goal. The first half of the game remained a back and forth battle with scores from both offenses. Receiver Brady Roland connected with Porterie for two touchdowns sending the Barnstormers into halftime in the lead 27-23. Wichita Falls took control of the third quarter returning the second half kickoff for a touchdown followed by a safety, giving the Nighthawks a 32-27 lead.

The Nighthawks continued to dominate the quarter with a pair of touchdowns increasing their lead further to 46-27. The Barnstormers began to close the gap with a touchdown pass from Porter to Roland, their third of the night, but the two-point conversion attempt failed. The Barnstormers trailed 46-33 with 4:38 remaining in the quarter. The Nighthawks scored once again closing out the third quarter on top 53-33.

The fourth quarter began with yet another touchdown from the Nighthawks, advancing their lead 60-33. A pick-six boosted the Nighthawks to a 67-33 lead. Barnstormers quarterback Brion Carnes connected with receiver Lemans Casimier for a score closing the gap 67-40 with just 3:32 remaining in the game. Wichita Falls responded with a score of their own, pulling away with a 74-40 lead. Carnes responded with a touchdown run in the final minute of the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Barnstormers were defeated 74-47.

The Iowa Barnstormers will have a bye week before hitting the road for Billings Montana to face the Wolves on Saturday, March 26. The Barnstormers return to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, April 9 when they will host the Nebraska Danger.
