Barnstormers Ink All-IFL Quarterback
Donovan Porterie Joins Iowa’s 2016 Roster

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers sign veteran quarterback Donovan Porterie, Head Coach Joe Brannen announced today.

“Signing the IFL’s second team quarterback is huge for our offense,” said Brannen. “Donovan led the League in several categories and his experience and leadership will be beneficial to the team overall. He is extremely talented and possesses the ability to extend plays with his legs. I am looking forward to see what he can do in a Barnstormers uniform this spring.”

Porterie (6-4, 220, University of New Mexico) joins the Iowa Barnstormers roster for his fifth season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). As an undrafted free agent, Porterie was picked up for a brief tenure with the NFL’s Detroit Lions in minicamp and OTAs. The Texas native entered the IFL in 2011 with the now defunct Fairbanks Grizzlies and has since been most notably recognized for his performance with the Green Bay Blizzard (2012-2013, 2015). Last season, the Blizzard starting quarterback completed 250 of 442 passing attempts for 2,669 yards and fifty-four touchdowns. League-wide, Porterie led in total offensive yards (2,868) and touchdowns (54), earning himself Second Team All-Indoor Football League honors.

Porterie was a four-year starter for the UNM Lobos from 2006-2009. In the 2007 New Mexico Bowl, he led a 20-0 victory over QB Colin Kaepernick’s Nevada Wolf Pack. As a redshirt senior, Porterie tallied 2,411 yards in twelve games with a 57.6% performance rating.

Porterie has also spent time with the Spokane Shock (AFL) who are now one of the newest competitors of the Indoor Football League.
