Allstate arena (16,000) Rosemont, Illinois

2010 Record- 2-3 (1-2 at home 1-1 on the road) - Streak: Lost 1- Fourth Place, National Conference, Midwest Division

Week 6 Recap:

The Barnstormers two game win streak came to an end after they were defeated by the Cleveland Gladiators 70-56. The Barnstormers started the battle by scoring in the first five minutes of the game with a Rodney Filer rushing touchdown. Cleveland answered quickly after with two touchdowns. Jason Simpson made a monster play on special teams when he grabbed a missed Cleveland kick return and ran it in for a touchdown bringing the Barnstormers to a 33-21 lead. Jeff Glas kicked for a final minute of the half 25 yard field goal, but Cleveland was able to score one more time before the clock ran out for the half to deplete the Barnstormers lead to one point 36-35 going into halftime.

Cleveland’s offense stayed strong through the second half of the game matching their score in the first half with another 35 points. The Barnstormers offense was quieted and held to only 20 points in the second half all touchdowns in the second half were rushing touchdowns by Quarterback Ryan Vena. At the end of the night the Barnstormers came up short taking their record to 2-3 on the season as they move on to take on the Chicago Rush this week.

Week 7 Preview:

Chicago suffered their first loss of the season last week to the Milwaukee Iron 48-70 losing sole possession of first place in the Midwest Division. Milwaukee came out of halftime firing on both offense and defense scoring 34 points in the third quarter; two of those touchdowns were scored by the defense on a Chicago interception and fumble. After that quarter the Rush couldn’t catch up. Now that Chicago has shown they can be beaten this will be a major game for the Barnstormers to step up and seek revenge on the Rush after they previously defeated the Barnstormers in the first game of the season and prove they are contenders in the Midwest Division.

Barnstormer Player of the Week: (Week 7)

Rodney Filer-FB/LB-#34         Week 6 Line: 5 rushes, 26 yards, 1 touchdown

Rodney Filer made his Barnstormers home debut this week against the Cleveland Gladiators and the Barnstormers were glad to have him back in action. His first game with the Barnstormers he was sharing time with JJ Payne switching between offense and defense, but against Cleveland he got a lot more playing time and opportunities at the fullback position. Filer scored the first touchdown of the game running in a 16 yard carry with multiple defenders trying to pull him down, but he was still able to make it into the end zone. Filer brings power to the running game that is not used nearly as frequently as passing in arena football.
