Barnstormers "D" Shines in Victory Over VooDoo

03/31/2013 6:58 AM -
For the second straight week, the Barnstormers traveled into a hostile environment and emerged victorious, this time defeating the New Orleans VooDoo by a 48-34 score. Just like last week Iowa never trailed in the contest, improving to 2-0 on the young season. Meanwhile New Orleans falls back to .500 with a 1-1 record on the season.

Iowa jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead as WR Marco Thomas scored on a 3 yard run on the second play from scrimmage. The touchdown was set up by a perfect 44 yard passing play from QB J.J. Raterink to WR Collin Taylor. The TD by Thomas was one of three for him on the night, as he also caught 8 passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Last week’s star, WR Darius Reynolds was quiet early on but woke up big with two huge TD receptions later in the game. Raterink finished the night completing 15 of 30 passes for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also chipping in with 2 scores on the ground as well.

By the midway point of the second quarter, Iowa was in complete control ahead by a score of 28-14. However the VooDoo rallied with a long touchdown drive followed by a defensive stop cutting the lead to 28-20 as the team’s entered halftime.   New Orleans came out of the locker room poised to make a comeback, but the attempt was short lived as Barnstormers LB Darnell Carter forced VooDoo QB Kurt Rocco to fumble on the first drive resulting in one of 3 turnovers forced by Iowa’s defense in the second half.

Iowa’s defensive charge was led by DB Erick McIntosh who finished the game with 10 tackles, 2 break-ups an interception and a fumble recovery. Fellow DB Ter’Ran Benton also made some key plays, including an interception in the game’s final minute that helped seal the Barnstormers victory.

After a successful road trip, the Barnstormers finally kick-off the home portion of their schedule next Friday night, April 5th when the Spokane Shock come to Wells Fargo Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:05pm. Season tickets for the 2013 Iowa Barnstormers season remain on sale now for as little as $99.00 per seat. Great seats remain on sale now! To order yours, or for more information, please call the Barnstormers at (515) 633-2255, or you can log onto www.theiowabarnstormers.com.
