Week 9 Preview

Iowa Barnstormers vs. Dallas Vigilantes
Saturday May 7, 2011
Kickoff: 7:30pm CST

American Airlines Center
Dallas, Texas

2011 Record: 2-5 (1-2 at home, 1-3 on the road)-Streak: Lost 4

Fourth Place, National Conference, Central Division

The BARNSTORMERS Last Week:

For the fourth game in a row, the Iowa Barnstormers have struggled to pull out a win as they fell to the Philadelphia Soul last Saturday 62-76.  It was a pretty emotional game for Barnstormer fans to watch their former starters, Ryan Vena and Tanner Varner, dominate the boys in black and gold.  This game also marked the debut of Iowa’s newest kicker, Kyle Schlicher; but Philadelphia was not merciful and took charge at the start.  Iowa’s turnovers played a big part in their loss as the Soul was able to capitalize on two first-half fumbles to take a 41-27 lead at half time.  The Stormers’ didn’t get things rolling until the fourth quarter as they outscored the Soul 22-21, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the game.

Week 9 Match Up:

The Iowa Barnstormers (2-5) return to conference play this weekend on the road against the Dallas Vigilantes (5-2).  Dallas is the final team in the National Conference, Central Division that Iowa has yet to see while the Barnstormers will be the third conference game for the Vigilantes.  Although the records seem to indicate how the game will play out, both teams seem to be very unpredictable when determining the outcomes of their games.  Saturday will definitely be a battle but the team who wins will be the team with the most stamina and largest “don’t quit” attitude.

The VIGILANTES Last Week:

The Dallas Vigilantes took control of the Kansas City Command last Friday, winning 72-63 and improving their record to 5-2 for the season.  Although they ended up with a victory, a glimpse at the first half would have made any Dallas fan very nervous.  The Command came out strong against the Vigilantes, putting up 29 points in the first quarter compared to Dallas’ 14.  The Vigilantes started to light the fire in the second quarter but were still trailing by nine at half time.  Dallas took the lead briefly in the third quarter but was quickly surpassed by 1 point.  The final quarter was very back and forth between the teams and luckily for the Vigilantes, time ran out for the Command and Dallas posted another ‘W’ for their season.
