Storm Chasers Gear Up for 2019

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers are excited to announce that Rebecca “Perry” Perryman will be returning as the Storm Chasers Dance Team Captain and Choreographer in 2019.

Perry returns to the Storm Chasers for her fourth season as a member of the team and her second season as Team Captain and Lead Choreographer. Perry comes with an extensive dance background with 14 years of dance experience including participating on both her high school and college dance teams. Perry also has experience teaching and choreographing, including high school dance clinics and musicals in the state of Iowa.

Perry’s passion for entertainment and creative vision provided the Barnstormers’ half-times with unique and upbeat routines throughout the 2018 United Bowl Championship season. While the Barnstormers will be defending the championship on the field, Perry looks forward to continuing to build on her creativity to make sure the Storm Chasers enhance the overall game day atmosphere and cheer the team on.

“I’m looking forward to the fan energy,” said Perry. “Coming off of a winning season definitely draws more attention to the Barnstormers and the Storm Chasers. This won’t change our passion, but it definitely puts a little more pressure on us to make sure we look our best and keep raising the bar.”

Perry looks forward to returning for another season and creating a positive experience for young women who are interested in dance and community involvement. When asked about what key things she is looking for in building the 2019 Storm Chasers team, Perry stressed creativity, commitment, adaptability, respect, and communication. “If we do our job right, we make it look easy.”

Girls who are interested in trying out for the 2019 Storm Chasers can circle Sunday, December 9 on their calendars. Details about the open tryout will be available in the coming weeks.

Perry provided insight as to what the tryout will entail, including learning a sideline pom routine, a choreographed dance routine, and participating in an interview segment. For participants to prepare for the open tryout, Perry suggests focusing on stamina and endurance.

“Prepare by stretching and working on physical endurance, but also relaxing your brain,” said Perry. “Come in ready to dance! I want to see energy and personality shine through. We learn a lot of moves in a short amount of time, so come in focused!”

Her advice for tryout hopefuls: “Be confident and have fun! Make sure you work on your stamina and keep your memory sharp.”

The 2019 Storm Chasers Tryout will be held on Sunday, December 9 at the Wellmark YMCA in downtown Des Moines. In addition to the Storm Chasers, this tryout will also host participants interested in joining the 2019 Flight Line Promo Team. Full details will be available online at www.theiowabarnstormers.com in the coming weeks.
