Barnstormers Join Indoor Football League, Hire Head Coach

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers are proud to announce their partnership with the Indoor Football League and the signing of Head Coach Joe Brannen to a 2-year contract, the franchise announced Wednesday.

President Jeff Lamberti has announced that the Iowa Barnstormers franchise will compete as part of the Indoor Football League (IFL) for the 2015 season under the supervision of former Barnstormers quarterback Joe Brannen.

“We are excited to bring the Barnstormers to the IFL”, said Lamberti. “The chance to sign more local players, see more fans at road games, and create friendly rivalries with other teams of the Midwest are just a few of the opportunities that we look forward to.”

With half of the IFL teams residing in Midwest cities, the Iowa Barnstormers will compete against teams such as the Green Bay Blizzard, Sioux Falls Storm, and Cedar Rapids Titans.

Lamberti notes that the economic aspects and business model of the IFL will be fitting for a team of the Des Moines market.

“The IFL provides the elements necessary to keep the fun, hard-hitting game of professional indoor football in Des Moines,” continued Lamberti. “Our goal is to keep the Barnstormers right here in Des Moines for years to come.”

Coach Brannen joins the Iowa Barnstormers with professional football experience, both as a coach and player. The Coe College letter-winner made his professional football debut as quarterback for the Iowa Barnstormers in 2008 and has since led the San Angelo Bandits of the Lone Star Football League to championship victory after being brought on as the team’s head coach. The Iowa native will assist year-round in several departments of the Barnstormers franchise.

The IFL was founded in 2008 as the result of a merger between two existing leagues, the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football Association. With the addition of the Iowa Barnstormers, the IFL will include twelve professional football teams in 2015.

The Indoor Football League continuously strives “to consistently serve our Guests (Ticket Holders), Partners (Sponsors), and our Homes (Team Cities) with the highest level of professional indoor football, and to do so with integrity, affordability, and passion, both on the field and around the communities which we play.”
